His homecoming talk was yesterday in my parent's ward and I must say it was the best homecoming talk ever (I must admit I am a bit biased). He served a wonderful mission- I love hearing the stories. I am so glad to have him home. It was great to see all of his friends at the homecoming. Its weird because most of them had gotten married while he was gone but I am glad they all still make time to hang out with him.

The Countdown Begins

There are many things I look forward to- holidays, weekends, paydays, 40% off sales. But nothing compares to the best two major events my family has coming up- my baby brother Logan returns home from his mission in Tacoma, Washington on May 10th (at approx 5:30pm) and my little sister and best friend Katie is due with their first baby on June 15th (although I hear babies can’t tell time).

My little brother Logan has been gone for 2 years and I am dying for one of his enormous hugs- the kind that make you feel safe, secure and crack your back all at the same time! I am so very proud of him and the sacrifice he has made in going on a full time mission for the LDS church. He is truly my hero- we have always been extremely close and I cannot wait for his return. He put a countdown on my iPod before he left and I check it every couple days just to see his photo and hoping the time has skipped ahead. Although Logan is the youngest and only boy in my family he has assumed the role of big brother and protector to all of us. Not hard when he stands at 6'7. He has always been there for me in times of heartache, sickness and he is the only one who can make me feel instantly better just by flashing his smile. You should ask my mom, the smile works magic on her too.

My sister Katie and her husband have been trying to get pregnant for many years. I am so very excited for them as they enter the exciting world of parenthood. They are the first couple on both sides of their families to be expecting so it will be the first grandchild for both my mother and Brandon’s mom. I quickly claimed the privilege of planning her long awaited baby shower and it is going to be a grand event! Katie and Brandon are the sweetest most thoughtful people you could ever run into and they will make exception parents. They are an amazing example of a loving relationship and successful marriage. Katie is truly my best friend and I cannot believe how lucky I am to have Brandon as a brother-in-law. I can’t wait to meet baby Stella and the personality she will be. If she is anything like her parents we are all in for a treat!

In the meantime- I have lots of work to keep me busy!

Time Flies

It’s been 4 months in my new position at work as a Digital Media Specialist in Corporate Communications and I feel as though I have been there forever. I almost can’t remember what life was like in another department. I started out working for America West Airlines at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and then transferred to the Employee Benefits Department at the Corporate Headquarters (now US Airways) where I worked for past 5 years handling the health insurance, newsletter, benefit fairs and wellness programs. It’s weird to think that I have worked for the airline since I was 23 and now I am in my 30’s.

Before working for US Airways I was a Nurse Assistant for a home health facility and cared for severely handicapped adults- I started there before my senior year in high school and worked there through college. After working there for 6 years and suffering through a broken engagement I decided I needed something new. So I applied to the airline and that is where I have been ever since. What started out as a desire for a change of pace has really turned into a blossoming career. Growing up all I ever wanted to be is a wife and mother, that was my #1 goal (still is) but things just did not work out the way I had planned. I never thought I would be 30 and single so I really did not focus on finishing my bachelor’s degree and plotting out a career path. Not that you cant work and still be a fanatic mother but I wanted nothing more that to be a stay at home mom and focus on raising children and baking. (I really do love to bake). So here goes- this is the story of a single career girl who loves shopping, movies, reading, music, baking- and occasionally gets asked out on a date. This is my life… in the meantime.
